Odell Peppers

Services for Odell Peppers, 68, of Avinger, will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Avinger. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Odell (Pep) Peppers was born March 20, 1948 in Avinger, Tx. To the parentage of Gabriel Peppers and Veree Taylor. In 1969 he united in marriage to Elmarie Johnson of Hughes Springs, Tx. To this union four children were born: Toyce Denmark of Dallas, Cedrick Peppers, Torrey Peppers, and La’Tonya Peppers, all of Avinger; ten grandchildren, Jimmy Jr. “Buddy” of Dallas, Alexus of Hughes Springs, Dequaries of Lone Star, Ryan of Avinger, Courtland of Daingerfield, Brylon, Brandon, Bryan, and Blake of Avinger; four great-grandchildren.
Odell Joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at an early age and later served as an active deacon of the church for many years. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge # 294 until his health prohibited him. He was a dedicated worker of Lone Star Steel and U.S. Steel for forty-two and a half years, missing only five days in his long career.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel and Veree Peppers; brothers, L.J., and Alfonso “Scoot” Peppers; sister, Leatrice; and granddaughter, La’Toya Denmark.
He leaves to mourn: wife, Elmarie Peppers; children; sister, Cora Hawkins of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a dedicated friend, William “Bill” Hogan; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

I worked with Odell for many years at Lone Star Steel & USS. It was a pleasure to have known such a man. He was a great mentor and an inspiration to his co-workers. I considered him a true gentleman and I am honored to have called him my friend. My prayers to all his family and friend. He will be missed.
