LINDEN TXOtha Lee Bill Bennett, 83, of Red Hill died Monday, August 27, 2012 at Linden HealthCare Center following a brief illness. He was born December 21, 1928 in Edom, Texas to Silas and Maggie Bennett. Bill attended Forest Ave. High School in Dallas. He served in the U.S. Navy and was employed by Southland Corporation following his discharge. He worked at Cabells Dairies and later at Midwest Farms of Texarkana. On October 20, 1960 he married Betty Lou Jackson in Dallas. They moved to the Red Hill community in Cass County in 1970. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2012. Bill was a member of Linden United Methodist Church, Linden Masonic Lodge 192 and Linden Chapter 576 Order of the Eastern Star. Bill is survived by two daughters, Lisa Bennett of Douglassville and Rebecca (Bernard) Manael of Irving; three sons, Ronald Bennett of Pirth, Texas, Gene (Cindy) Bennett of Kaufman, and David Bennett of Ft.Worth; seven sisters, Helen Fox and Avanell Cowgill both of Dallas, Maxine (Roger) Moore and Joyce Ellis of Balch Springs, Geraldine (Ed) Rhodes of Scroggins, Texas, Charlotte (Stan) Shelton of Rowlett, and Freida Puckett of Frisco; a sister-in-law, Jean Bennett of Tyler and a brother-in-law, Bob (Betty) Childress of Van Alstyne, Texas. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Oneida and a brother, Delbert Bennett. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Linden United Methodist Church with Rev. Neil Adams officiating. Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home in Linden is in charges of arrangements.
