Patricia Wheat

February 14, 1949 ~ January 18, 2022
Patricia Ann Wheat, 72, of Hughes Springs was born February 14, 1949 in Texarkana, Texas to Homer and Bessie Henry. She passed away on January 18, 2022. She married Larry Wheat on May 27, 1967.
Pat is remembered for her work for the Morris County Sheriff's Department and the District Attorney's Office. Her attention to detail and ability to organize made her exceptional in her career in law enforcement. Following her retirement, she spent many years caring for numerous children as well as her grandchildren. Pat, who was lovingly called Gammy, was her grandchildren's biggest fan in anything they were involved in. She attended every event she could to show her love and support for them. She would later enjoy spending time with her great-grandchildren as well. She spent the last 15 to 20 years of her life dedicated to caring for her husband through many health issues. As a mother, she was a kind, loving, strict disciplinarian. She did not tolerate too much back talk or foolishness. She has a wonderful sense of humor and was a nigh owl. She very rarely went to bed until her children were home. She loved to cook big meals for her family and complain the whole time about the amounts it took to fill us up. One package of fried deer meat was never enough. At Christmas, every child, old and young, got 6-10 packages a piece. She had the gift to give and think of the most unique and usable gifts. Pat was dedicated to her church and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years as well as serving in the church nursery and choir. She loved to teach children about the Lord and showed the His love through her love for them. Pat will be remembered for many things, but her love for the Lord and her family are, perhaps, her greatest accomplishments.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Ernest and Bessie Louise Henry; her brothers, James Thomas Henry and Homer Ray Henry.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Larry Gene Wheat; her daughter, Pamela Michele Nelson and husband Greg of Hughes Springs; her son, Bradley Gene Wheat and wife Ginger of Hughes Springs; grandchildren, Payton Elyce Marchand and husband Colin, Garrett James Nelson and wife Shelby, Carter Bradley Wheat and fiancé Callie, Cade Braden Wheat , Collin Brady Wheat, Chelsi Rene Vissering and husband Billy, Kody Lane Burns; great-grandchildren, Parker Evelyn Marchand, Nelson James Marchand, Bentley Jack Vissering, Penny Elizabeth Nelson (arriving in March), Axel Layne and Creed Henry Vissering (arriving in March); sister-in-law, Debra Newsom and husband Lee, Molly Henry and Carolyn Henry; and a host of nieces and nephews and her lifelong friend, Dixie Dickson.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Hughes Springs. Burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
