Mr. Peary Wood, 91, of Ore City, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on December 12, 2025. He was born on October 27, 1934, in Seymour, Texas.
Peary proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his service, he built a long and dedicated career, retiring first from Lone Star Steel and later from Industrial Electric Motor Company. He was a man whose skills knew few limits. He was capable, hardworking, and always willing to use his hands to repair, build, or restore whatever needed attention.
A devoted Mason, Peary began his Masonic journey as a DeMolay Chevalier and continued throughout his life as a Master Mason, faithfully serving as a member of Ore City Lodge No. 1364. His commitment to integrity, service, and fellowship was evident in the way he lived and treated others.
Peary loved the outdoors and preferred being outside whenever he could. He enjoyed watching boxing and had been a boxer himself in his younger years. He also had a passion for racing boats and once built a boat of his own. Known for his neatness, order, and strong sense of discipline, Peary approached life with quiet strength and steadfast pride. He also served his community with dedication, including 8 years on the Ore City School Board and 8 years on the Ore City City Council.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethylene Wood; his daughter, Debbie Brants; his son, Kyle Wood; and his brother, Doug Wood.
He is survived by his devoted life companion, Jeanie Rooks; his son, Peary Don Wood and wife Debbie; his daughter, Dawn Milson and husband Nick; Jeanie’s children, Keith Camp and wife Tanya, and Lisa Chastain and husband Tracy; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a number of extended family and many dear friends who will carry his memory forward.
Graveside services for Mr. Wood will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2025 at Ore City Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City.
