Pluma Smith Barrett

Pluma Smith Barrett, 86, of Linden, Texas passed away January 10, 2020. Mrs. Barrett was born on a farm in Maud, Texas in 1933 to Nathan Floyd Elrod and Annie Leo Hurt Elrod. Pluma was the youngest of 2 brothers and 3 sisters. She graduated from Hughes Springs High School and after raising her family she went back to school and became an LVN. Pluma worked at the Linden Municipal Hospital and Oak Manor Nursing Home. She was a Christian and a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and she had attended PineCrest Baptist Church for many years. She loved to country western dance and playing dominoes. She also took pride in being a "Yellow Dog Democrat".
She is survived by one son, Ray and Ann Smith of Linden; daughter-in-law, Valerie Smith of Linden; three grandsons, Jeremy Dewayne Smith, Jason Floyd Smith, Otha Ray Smith III; three great-grandchildren, Laklee Smith, Greenlee Smith, Otha Christian Smith and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Otha Ray Smith, Sr.; her parents, Nathan Floyd and Annie Leo Elrod; one son, Floyd Smith; three sisters and two brothers.
Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 13, 2020 in the chapel of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden with Bro. Bryan Baggett officiating. Burial to follow in the Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.
There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

My sincerest condolences to all the family. I have not seen her in many years but she was a positive influence during my teenage years. I loved her dearly. My prayers are with you.

Plums was a good friend, a great co-worker. The world lost a wonderful woman.
