November 25, 1927 ~ October 21, 2015
Alton Odell Sasser was born in Smithland, TX to the parents of the late Tom and Beatrice Sasser and passed away October 21, 2015. He was the oldest child of six siblings. He grew up and completed his high school education in Smithland, TX and had a desire to attend and further his education at Jarvis Christian College and College of the Scripture in Lewisville, Kentucky. Before Alton achievements in education, God had a greater plan for him. There was a higher calling on his life, at a very young age. Alton Sasser had an urge to Preach the word of God as a young boy, and he always had older preacher/ministers in his path. One day, at the age of 11 years old, as he was attending his home church (Douglas Chapel Church) in Smithland, TX under the leadership of Pastor Jerry Douglas; he told the pastor he felt he had to preach. Pastor Douglas saw the anointing on Alton and told him, well if you feel that way then come on and preach. Alton then delivered his first (1st) Sermon, which was titled For God So Love the World. (John 3:16). At the age of 15 years old, Bro. Alton Sasser was asked to assist at the St Paul Lassater Methodist Church, Warlock Methodist Church, and Rocket Springs Methodist Church, all in Lassater, Texas. One of the pastors became sick and Bro. Sasser was asked at such a young age, to stand in as Pastor. Alton Sasser was later asked to go preach at the Anadarko Christian Church in Laneville, TX at the age of 20. The church did not have a pastor at that time. Alton then got on the Bus and rode it to the church. Upon his arrival, no one was at the church. It was empty. About Twenty minutes later, it was around 50 people coming to hear the young Alton preach. The members told him, they wasnt looking for a preacher, they were looking for a Pastor. Alton was very nervous Now, time to deliver the word of God, a church FULL of people had arrived. This went on for three weeks, then they called him to Pastor. Nine years later, Fulton Street Christian Church in Palestine, TX called him to Pastor. He was faced with a bunch of Educated Christians, who acted like they couldnt open their mouth to say Amen in which Alton wasnt used to. But he continued to be obedient to the Lord and preached anyway, even in the midst of the situations and circumstances. He stayed there several years. Alton, was also the Pastor of the Elcot Church in Palestine, TX. After he completed his mission in Palestine, TX he was then asked to come help out at Northside Christian Church in Tyler, TX until they could get a pastor. He was there for Six years. The young anointed Alton went on to Pastor the North Bolton Christian Church in Jacksonville, TX as they were in need of a Pastor. Alton later went to First Christian Church in Hawkins, TX where he was pastor for Ten years. The members later got rid of him because he didnt accept the women preachers. People (men) he thought was standing with him was not for him. He was then called to Pastor Shady Grove Christian Church in Cason, TX, after their Pastor Lewis Sasser (Altons Uncle) died. He remained faithfully as pastor there for 46 years every 2nd and 4th Sundays. While he stood as Pastor at Shady Grove, he also was called to Pastor the Wallick Chapel Christian Church for 23 years, where he remained a faithful servant until God called him home. In the midst of Altons spiritual journey as a minister, he married Wilsie Rose in Smithland, TX on December 25, 1948, and moved to Dallas, TX in 1953. They remained married for 29 years. One handsome Son and four beautiful daughters were born: Alton O Sasser, Jr (Reginah); Gloria Johnson (Charles), Faye Thompson (John), Vera Early (David M) and Debra Young (David G), all of the Dallas metroplex. Altons home-church in Dallas, Texas was Canady Drive Christian Church. Later as his journey continued, his path led him to meet a loving and God fearing woman name Oreathe Traylor. Alton found something very special in her and desired her for his wife. On April 15, 1978, at Pine Bluff Church the two became one in marriage (Alton and Oreathe Sasser), and later moved to Naples, TX where they now resides. To this union another beautiful daughter was born: Cecilia Lashon Sasser. Alton & Oreathe truly loved each other and remained happily married for 38 blessed years. To God be all the Glory! Alton, Oreathe, and all six of his children obtains a very healthy and loving rapport (bond) with each other, as God would have it to be so. Altons ultimate desire has been, to please God. He also leave to cherish his memories: 2 sisters - Doverine and Delores; 1 sister in law - Theresa ((Fred); 2 brothers - Nathaniel and Raymond; 13 Grandchildren; 26 Great Grandchildren; 11 Great-great Grandchildren; 1 special adopted daughter - Maudie Peters. And a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Pastor Alton O. Sasser, Sr, absolutely LOVED the Word of God, and his favorite scripture was II Timothy 4:2-8. Services for Rev.
