Funeral services for Rev. Durwood Lynn Bristow Sr., 77, will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Hughes Springs. Burial will follow at Cornett Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. The family will receive visitors from 6 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 24, 2012 at the funeral home. Rev. Bristow was born March 21, 1935 in Stonewall County, TX to Ernest Bristow and Ona Fleming Bristow. He passed away August 22, 2012 in Longview, TX. He graduated from Imperial High School and went on to attend Kilgore College, SFA, and SMU seminary. He worked for Pacific Bell Telephone Company, Thiokol Chemical Company in Karnack and preached faithfully for 38 years for the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served several East Texas churches and retired in 2000 from the First United Methodist in Hughes Springs and Cornett United Methodist Church, where he served for the last seven years of his ministry. He continued to serve the Lord in retirement and preached as late as June 3, 2012 at both Cornett and Hughes Springs. He lived in Cornett, TX. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice Cline Bristow; two daughters Sharon Bristow McMillian and husband James McMillian, of Linden and Cynthia Bristow Thrailkill and husband Jimmy Thrailkill, of Madisonville, TX; son R. D. Bristow and wife Lisa, of Henderson, TX; daughter-in-law Christine Bristow Walker, of Spring, TX; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother Ernest Ray (Ernie) and wife Becky Bristow, of Brawley, CA; one sister Neva Bristow Hart, of Winterhaven, CA; one uncle P.D. and wife Nell Fleming, of Mt. Pleasant; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ernest Bristow and Ona Fleming Bristow; two sons Michael Phillip Bristow and Durwood Lynn Bristow Jr.; three brothers Mardis Bristow, Claudis Bristow, and Curtis Doyle (C.D.)   6. We are very glad that we had a time to be with Durwood, Janice and family recently. He was truly a man of God, and his loved ones were blessed by his steadfast love for them. We will be honored to help the family in whatever way we may be able.

  7. I do not have the words to express the understanding and peace that you and Durwood have given me thru out the years in Houston and now East Texas. I know you will miss him, but he is now with our Lord, not in pain, but glorious reward. In God's Grace, Suzanne

  8. We are so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful man. He touched those he knew in such a soft and caring manner. Danny and I were trying to make it to visitation but had company all evening and will be unable to attend the service. Our prayers are with the family and of course our extened church families of both churches.
