Services for Roby Robertson, 87, will be 2;30 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.
Robyn Grace Robertson (“Roby”), musician, teacher, mother and wife, died Tuesday, February 1st at Mountain View Hospital in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was 87.
She was born Roby Grace Hogge in Bear Creek, TX, on October 24,1934. Her memories of her earliest years as the youngest of five sisters were full of happiness, but that time was cut short when she lost her own mother at age 3. Soon she was invited to Linden, TX, to grow up in the home of her adoptive parents, Tom and Gladys Finley, who supported her musical training throughout her youth.
At age 15, Roby left for Pepperdine University in Los Angeles until, a couple of years later while home for the summer, she met the the love of her life back in Linden. Bill Robertson saw her singing in the choir one Sunday morning, and went home to tell his own mother (Roby’s beloved piano teacher) that he was going to marry that girl. Their wedding was October 12th of the same year, and three little girls quickly followed.
In 1960, the family moved west to Alamogordo, NM, where Bill became a banker and Roby finished her BA at the University of Texas El Paso to begin a career as music teacher, church organist and vocalist in the El Paso Pro-Musica Chorus. Music and all forms of beauty were her refuge, and the animating forces throughout her life.
Although Bill and Roby had moved far away, they always considered Linden home. Now they will rest side by side in the Linden cemetery.
She is survived by those three daughters, two sons-in-law, one grandson and two great granddaughters: Shari Robertson and her husband Michael Camerini of New York City, Susan Robertson of Georgetown, TX, her son William Ericson of Killeen, TX and his daughters Evelyn and Madelyn Ericson, and Louann Robertson and her husband John McConnell of Las Cruces, NM.
Shari, so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. So many great stories from you and Michael, and such a long and full life. We have found that our beloved parents are always with us wherever they are. Much love from Dean and Roxie
I am so sorry to see this’we had no idea that Roby had passed away’my grandmother was Lucile Stanley Ford and was Azelle Robertson’s sister. Roby was so sweet and we would have come to the service but didn’t know about it.
