Sheila Delois Chisom, born on May 3, 1958, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Willie Jay, Sr. and HueLena Chisom, entered the loving arms of our Heavenly Father as she joined her parents and other dear family who have gone before her.
Sheila was the eldest of six children. At the age of seven, she moved with her mother to California, where she was raised in the Jordan Downs Projects. There, she discovered her talents, her voice, and her resilience. Shelia grew up singing and dancing in talent shows, marching proudly in the Watts Parade during the 1970s, and developing the social and life skills that shaped the warm, vibrant woman she became.
She attended Jordan High School, where she was a member of the drill team, an accomplishment she was proud of. Shelia graduated in 1977. Years later, through determination and unwavering persistence, she achieved another dream: earning her Associate of Arts degree in Psychology from San Bernardino Valley College in 2009.
Sheila was gifted with many talents. She was a skilled seamstress who created beautiful, unique outfits. She also loved crocheting, making hats, scarves, purses, and bags, each piece a reflection of her creativity and impeccable attention to detail. Her hands were blessed, and her work brought joy to many.
Along with her parents, Sheila joins her beloved sister Brenda and grandmother, Beulah McCullough- Scott in heaven.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children:
-Dontray Wedlow and his wife Porsha, and their daughters Kaia, Kasiyah, Korniie, and Kamille Wedlow
-Eric Thomas (step-son)
-Fallynn Thomas
-Tessera Thomas, and her son Jordan Powers
She also leaves her siblings:
-Tina Manning and her husband Sonny
-Regina Shumaker and her children, Keena and Terry II and Regina’s grandchildren, Ade, Ah’kyla, Xiaylah, and Terry III
-Tony Chisom
-Willie Chisom, Jr., and his daughter Charlene
She also leaves behind her sister Brenda’s son Byron, and his sons Kyron and Tyron, and Auntie Maeola and Uncle Eddie Sharp and their two sons, Shawn and Dondrae; along with a host of cousins, dear friends, godsons, and goddaughters.
Sheila’s life was one of strength, creativity, humor, and boundless love. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched, in every stitch she sewed, and in every moment she shared with those fortunate enough to know her. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
