Graveside services for Mrs. Shirley Jean Mitchell, 84, of Kildare, Texas, will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2025, at Kildare Cemetery, with Bro. Wayne Shew officiating, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden. There will be a time of visitation with family and friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Shirley was born May 21, 1941, in Linden, Texas, to Mr. Elmer Franklin Washington and Mrs. Maggie Mae Shelton Washington. She passed away surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at home in Kildare.
Known for her love of quilting, cooking, and baking, Shirley was admired for her culinary skills, particularly her beautiful pies. She had a deep passion for gardening and was known for her “green thumb.” A longtime member of the Kildare Garden Club, Shirley also served as an election representative for many years in Kildare.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Franklin Washington and Maggie Mae Washington; sisters, Marie Brown and Bobbie Kirkland; brother, James Washington; grandson, Steven Cody Dorgan.
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Mr. Jackie Mitchell; daughters, Gail Dorgan, and Jackie Hurt (Steve); son, Forrest Mitchell (Jodi); grandchildren: Brandy Stiger, Lance Endsley, Heath Endsley, Tara Wall, Jacob Hurt, Erin Thompson, Kayla Mitchell, Timbor Arnold, Hali Mitchell, Zac Endsley; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Orville Washington; and her precious fur baby, Jake.
Shirley’s warm heart, boundless generosity, and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
