Born in:
San Antonio, Texas
Resided in:
Hughes Springs, Texas
Susan Alice Miller was born April 5, 1949, to Horace Noble (“Pat”) Miller and Eunice Lorene Taylor in San Antonio, Texas. Susan left this earthly life on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at the age of 76.
Susan’s early years were spent in the San Antonio area until her family moved to the Waco area. Susan graduated from Lavega High School in 1967. She attended college where she studied business. She worked various jobs and spent her last working years at Morris County Appraisal District. She was a valuable employee, well-versed in business knowledge and the ability to work with clients. She was the owner and “right hand” of Hamp’s Trucking Company, located in Hughes Springs.
Susan was a quiet person who was kind but yet firm. She was an excellent cook and was known for her white cheddar cheese dip. She loved people and strangers soon became her friends. She loved big family vacations! And you know that, being married to Ronald, there were BIG sibling vacations, at least one a year for longer than anyone can remember. The last sibling trip was to Galveston the first week of June 2025. Her health was not good, but she never complained and she helped with meals and kitchen duties. She had a sweet smile and an amazing temperament. July 4 was her favorite holiday and she and Ronald brought food to the annual gathering. She preferred to stand rather than sit, due to the pain.
Susan did not give birth to a child, but she was blessed with many stepchildren whom she loved as though they were born to her, and she loved to share their accomplishments. She loved working with flowers, crafts, and art. Her home is interesting to visit due to her love of western art. (She was a cowgirl at heart!!) She also loved to travel, seeing new places and revisiting old places. Fishing and deer hunting were also high on her list of things to do.
Susan loved God, her husband, her family and friends, in that order. When you spoke with her, you knew immediately that she was a Christian.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Ronald; her brother and his wife (Charles & Anna Miller) of Bynum, Texas; two nephews: Wade Miller and wife, Jill of Austin, Texas; Kyle Miller and wife, Crystal, of Abbott, Texas; four great-nephews: Jax, Peyton, Nolan, and Chase Miller; three stepsons: Clayton & Taylor Hampton, of Gladewater, Texas: Tye & Hope Smith of Durant, Oklahoma; and Jason Jordan, of Florida; special friends: Ira Jo Knowles, Lee & Nancy Rains, and Doug and Carolyn Wills.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at South Union Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10:30 a.m., prior to the service. Inurnment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, Texas, at a later date.
Susan was a special person and she will be missed by her many friends and family.
