Vedder Wayne "Red" Simpson

Services for Mr. Vedder Wayne “Red” Simpson, 80 of Avinger, will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Turkey Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Charles Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Turkey Creek Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 5 until 7 Friday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Vedder Wayne “Red” Simpson passed away on April 20, 2022, at the age of 80. He was born on September 20, 1941 to Thomas Vedder, and Iva Lee Boyd Simpson. He is survived by his loving wife Sue Long Simpson, one son Thomas Wayne Simpson, two daughters Teresa Gay Wallace, and Sherrill Lynn Simpson; three granddaughters Alicia Gay Hargett, Felicia Rae Odom, and Samantha Lynn Conners; Four great granddaughters Gabrielle, Melody, Harmony, and Codie; Brother-in-law David Long; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Norma Ray Simpson; siblings, Bobbie Jean Riddle and Billy Joe Simpson.
Red enjoyed everything he did. He was very active in sports during high school, particularly football and track. He was elected president of his senior class. To add to the excitement of his teenage years, he and his best friend Jodie Ribble joined the Navy to see the world. After completion of the Navy and Army reserve, he began the next phase of his life supporting his family. He enjoyed working at places including A&A Coating, A&E Machine Shop, B&S Machine Shop, Texas Eastman, and Delta Fabrication and Machine. He also owned his own business Daingerfield Machine Works.
Music was a very important part of his life. He enjoyed dancing, singing, and he loved to whistle. He was a manager of the Rambling Fever Band. He also enjoyed sports such as bass fishing, football, golf, and NASCAR Racing.
He was a very active Christian in Turkey Creek Baptist Church. He served as chairman of the deacons for many years, taught the men’s Sunday school class, and served on many committees. He was affectionately known as the candy man. He loved serving others any way that he could. He will be greatly missed. We will especially miss his contagious smile, warm hugs, and jovial nature.

I am so sorry to hear o f the passing of Vedder Wayne, altho he was a liitle older than me, Vedder always remembered me when we would see each other. I remember Vedder Wayne from school and I also remember he was a great athlete. Vedder Wayne will be missed by many. R.I.P. ole buddy. My prayers are with family and friends.

My heart is broken. I met Vedder in grade school and our friendship lasted the rest of our lives. The class of Mustangs from 1960 has lost one of the strongest links in our chain. 😇😇😇
Sue, just wanted you to know how sorry we are for your loss. You and Red were so fun to be around. It's so hard to believe he's gone. I'm praying for you!!!
My deepest condolences to you and your family. Although I never had the opportunity to meet Mr. Simpson, Sue was my favorite teacher and had a great impact on me as a young student. I am sorry to hear this news and wish your family the very best in the years to come.
