Vella Mae Williams, fondly known as “Red” was the second born daughter to Ezekiel “Nank” and Arvella Garrett. She was born on December 16, 1938 in Daingerfield, Texas. She attended J.J. Rhodes School in Daingerfield and continued to read and do puzzles to keep her mind sharp. She loved quilting with her mother and attending garage sales with her sisters. She would share her garage sale treasures with her family, friends and others in need. She appreciated her phone partners checking on her and her dog, Junbug. Vella Mae acceptedChrist as her personal Savior at Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Supt. L.C. Castleberry. She enjoyed herrelationships with the Lord and her church family.She loved to read her Bible and documented the scriptures and texts of the church speakers. She worked faithfully and attended services until departing on Sunday morning while getting dress for church. On January 7, 1956 Vella Mae Garrett and Edward Williams Jr. were married.To this union nine blessed children were born. Vella Mae is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Williams Jr. in 2003 and her father, Ezekiel Garrett in 1973. She leaves to treasure her memory two daughters, Jeanette Williams Doddy (Robin Ray) and Vickie Williams; seven sons, Robert Willams (Tanyel), James Edward Williams (Werda), Johnny Williams (Darcus), Larry Williams (Tonya), Frank Williams Sr.(Carol), Bobby Williams, Billy Williams (Rochelle); and a grandson she raised Frank “Bo” Williams Jr.; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother, Arvella Garrett; six sisters Margine Mims, Francis Garrett, Dorsula Garrett, Betty Garrett, Margaret Stoker and Sherna Garrett; three brothers Clarence Garrett, Curtis Garrett and David Garrett; and a host of nieces , nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
