Vernice Duke

Funeral services for Mr. Vernice Edward Duke, age 80 of Lone Star are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday June 28, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Lone Star with Bro. Robert Norris and Bro. Larry Neeley officiating. Interment will follow at Harris Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Duke was born July 3, 1931 in Atlanta and passed away Sunday, June 24 at a Hughes Springs nursing center. He retired from Lone Star Steel after 33 years of service. He also retired from the Lone Star Police and Fire Department, and was an Alderman for the City of Lone Star. Mr. Duke also served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Duke is survived by his loving Wife, Annie Lou Duke; 3 Sons: Eddie Duke and wife Paula, Jimmy Duke and wife Charolett, Steven Duke and fianc Charlene; 2 brothers-in-law, Norbrate and David McDaniel; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Lone Star, Texas.
Sweet Ms. Ann and family,so sorry to hear about Vernice. You know how much we loved him and respected him. He will be missed, gone but never forgotten.
Much love and respect to Vernice, he was a mentor to me and several other young men as a Police Officer and Firefighter. My heeart and prayers go out to his family.

It was a privilege to know this wonderful man. He had a generous heart and so much patience. His life did count because he blessed so many people while he was here with us. We will meet him again with God.
