Vernon Glenn "Pap" Stiteler, 83, of Washington, PA, died Friday, February 13, 2015, in Washington Hospital after a brief illness. He was born September 30, 1931, in Smicksburg, Indiana County, a son of the late Vernon Clarence and Mildred Ruth Casedy Stiteler. Mr. Stiteler was employed at Jones & Laughlin Steel as a pipe fitter in Aliquippa. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean conflict, receiving the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After serving his years in the military, he was employed as an aircraft mechanic at Southwest Airlines Automotive in Fort Worth, Texas, for many years. He later moved to Aliquippa and worked for Melon Stewart Construction at Neville Island. Mr. Stiteler was last employed as an automotive industrial sales manager for Stewart Warner Alemite in Washington for 43 years until his retirement. Mr. Stiteler owned his own airplane, and his love was being a civilian pilot. He and his family enjoyed their many trips in their motor home. He also built small airplanes. Mr. Stiteler loved his family to the fullest and enjoyed all his wonderful times with his grandchildren. He was a member of Arms Club, American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, was founder and president of Washington County Flyers Club at Washington County Airport and was on the planning commission in South Franklin Township. On November 1, 1953, he married Escha "Jo" LaJo, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Vernon David (Janet Kelley) Stiteler of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Glenda Jean Stiteler (Tom) Yando of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren, Brok Stiteler, Erin Stiteler, Ashleigh Yando and Nate Yando; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a sister, Helen Postage, and a brother, Richard Stiteler. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 16, in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc. Wilson at East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. Family and friends will gather at 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home for a brief departing prayer lead by the Rev. Tate Fulton. Graveside Services will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Linden Cemetery in Linden, Texas, with full military honors being accorded graveside, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.
