Victor O McGilvary

February 24, 1925 ~ July 1, 2016
Mr. McGilvray was born February 24, 1925 in Denton, Texas and lived most of his life in Linden, Texas. He proudly served his country during World War II in the 5th Marine Infantry Division. He was a Purple Heart recipient, a scoutmaster, a recipient of the silver beaver award, member of the Linden Lions Club, a founding member of the Linden Volunteer Ambulance Service, retired from Lone Star Steel, and a founding member of St. Catherines Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Gene Brabham; his parents, O.E. and Mary Lillian Henderson McGilvray; his sister, Mary Beth Phillips; and his niece, Anita Jane Barker.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Bill Mulvany of Texarkana, AR; his son, Joe Pat McGilvray of Linden, TX; his granddaughter, Christy (and Shad) Wooldridge of Portales, NM; great-grandchildren, Blake (and Erin) Thompson of Glennville, GA, Gregory Wooldridge of Portales, NM, and Maggie Wooldridge of Portales, NM; a host of nieces and nephews;and his devoted caregivers Tracy Walker, Dorotha Hall, Mary Lloyd, and Darlene Haynes.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6th, in the chapel at Reeder Davis Funeral Home in Linden with Fr. Rev. Daniel Gonzalez officiating. Burial to follow in the Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.
Mass will be held at 5:00pm on Tuesday, July 5th, at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Atlanta, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, July 5th, at Reeder Davis Funeral Home in Linden.
Lots of fond memories, especially when you lived up at the end of Vance street. I surely will never forget that old Weimeranar. He's about the last of the bunch. Been missing him at Lion's Club for a while now. Rest in peace, Vic. Richard
