She was a great Christian lady that brought joy to all that knew her. She will surely be missed by her family and friends. Our Sunday School class won’t be the same without her there.

Wynne Tompkins was born in Pensacola, Florida, on January 31, 1949, and passed away peacefully at her home in Avinger, Texas, on June 11, 2025, at the age of 76. She was the second daughter of Bruce Elwood Tompkins and Virginia Byrd Tompkins and grew up surrounded by a loving extended family.
Wynne accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior in July 1965 at an independent Christian youth camp in northwest Florida. Her deep faith shaped her life, and from the age of ten, she served faithfully by playing the piano in church and participating in countless church activities throughout the years. She was a gifted classical and church pianist, using her musical talents to minister to others.
In 1969, she made a bold move to Texas without knowing anyone, beginning a new chapter in her life. She worked for Monsanto and Texaco, later joining Texas Instruments in Dallas, where she met the man who would become her best friend and husband of 48 years, Dave Young, who survives her.
Wynne was a woman of many gifts. Among her accomplishments, she held a private pilot license, reflecting her adventurous spirit and determination.
She is also survived by her sister, LeNoir Foster of Morristown, TN; her son, Brad Young of Oak Point, TX; and her daughters, Robin (Fabian) Ramirez of The Colony, TX; Kelly (Kelly) Bright of Garland, TX; and Julie (Robb) Martin of Garland, TX. Her legacy lives on in her eight grandchildren, Abby, Nick, Andrea, Orelia, Fabian Junior, Rosa, Destiny, and Alyssa; and eight great-grandchildren, Elena, Nikko, Cleo, Alexis, Isaac, Victoria, Catalina, and Amelia; as well as in her cherished niece, Karen Pierce of Carrollton, TX.
A family graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Avinger Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.
A celebration of Wynne’s life will be held at South Union Missionary Baptist Church in Daingerfield. Details will be shared as they become available.
