Coy Hinton, better known as “Grampa”, died on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the hospital in Pittsburg, Texas. He lived a life full of love and blessings, and departed for his heavenly home with joy in his heart.  His strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried him to the ripe old age of 91.

Coy was born on February 20, 1932 in Dallas, Texas to Herschel Hinton and Maude Malinda Brown Hinton. He married the love of his life, Pearl (Polly) Abernathy in 1952.  Known for his kind heart, cheerful personality, and devout faith, he and Polly shared over 60 years of marriage and raised 3 loving daughters, Norma – Cindy – and Ramona. Throughout his life he maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many.  His gift of a cheerful disposition, shown through his friendly conversations with everyone he met, will never be forgotten.

Polly and Coy met in her hometown of San Antonio and the couple was married on December 20, 1952.  They raised their 3 children in the Dallas area.  Coy worked for over 30 years as an Officer of United American Insurance Company.  Possessing a true servant’s heart, he faithfully cared for family and friends while working and volunteering for his church.   He shaped their spirituality by his tireless Christian example.  A faithful husband, Mr. Hinton loved to read, watch birds, fish and complete jigsaw puzzles – especially with his Grandchildren.

After his retirement in 1996, the couple moved to the Avinger area.  He loved to go for walks and simply enjoy the lovely surroundings of nature.  He loved his neighbors, many of whom became as close as family.  He particularly loved his church family at Daingerfield Church of Christ.

Coy’s family members are numerous, but mainly include:

Father of 3 Children & Partners: Norma and Phillip Hancock, Cynthia and Martin Peterson, Ramona Dowdy and Darrell Dick.  Ramona preceded her father in death.

Grandfather to 8: Steve Trimble, Stacy Keough, Scott Trimble, Jeff Turley, Julie Conklin, Alicia Mleczko, Candace Retmier, and Tobe Williams.  They have provided him with 19 beloved great-grandchildren.

Immediate family: Parents: Herschel and Maude Hinton (deceased); Siblings: Troy, Bobbie, Lewis, Guyola, Lois, Willie, Faye, Claudia, and Alta (deceased) and Ruth Hughes, the last survivor of this loving family of 11 children.

Other family members: Too many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and great grand-children to list or even count.
