Archie (June) Woods, Jr. was born July 3, 1927 in Cason, Texas, to the late Archie and Codella Leftwich Woods. He received his education from Sunview and Rosenwald Schools in Morris County. Mr. Woods enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946. Upon service to his country, he returned and united in marriage with Marlene Mangram in 1949 and to this union seven children were born. Mr. Woods began his career as a railroad worker for Lone Star Steel. He later became employed at Kansas City Southern Railway in 1950 where he worked until he retired in 1993. In all, Mr. Woods worked some 50 years on the railroad. He had a lifelong passion for cars and trains. After retiring, he could often be found sitting on the tracks in Cason flagging trains. On January 25, 2013, Mr. Woods departed from this Earth at the Pittsburg Nursing Center. Archie was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Sandra Sue Woods; two sisters Artery Sanders and Lauria Grant; two brothers Archie Charles Woods and Speedy Woods; a grandchild and three great grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his wife of 63 years, Marlene Woods; six children Koleta Manning of Pittsburg, Patricia Woods of Duncanville, Mickey (Mary) Woods of Cason, Cynthia Smith of Cason, Rosalyn Smith of Mount Vernon and Gwendolyn (Jesse Ray) Criss of Pittsburg; a grandson he raised, Randy (Sonya) Woods of Pittsburg; 7 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; sisters Ruthary Sheppard of San Bernardino, California, Rushie (Charlie) Cook of Plainview, Edvernell (Jack) Moss of Sun City, California and brother Herman (Lois) Woods of Cason. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 28, 2013 at Reeder-Davis Chapel with Rev. Kirtell Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Traylor Cemetery in Pittsburg under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. There will be a wake Sunday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
