David B. Sprague was born December 15, 1941, in Wichita, Kansas, to Carmin Barton Sprague and Ethel May Gotschall Sprague. Carmin was employed as a chemist and David was afforded the opportunity to travel and reside in Venezuela as a young boy. David completed high school in Monroe, LA, and began college, majoring in biomedicine. David was employed and later retired from the YMCA, attended the 1st Presbyterian Church of Monroe, LA, and met and married the love of his life, Patricia A. Powell, on December 26, 1964. David joined the US Army 1st Infantry Division as a 2nd Lieutenant on April 5, 1965, at Fort Polk, LA. The Alpha Company, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 28th Battalion (Black Lions) engaged in the Vietnam War, where David was wounded and received the Purple Heart. While in Vietnam, David received a letter from his pastor and quickly memorized Psalm 23, which led David to become a crusader for Christ. After active duty, David joined the US Army Reserve and began to enjoy thriving with his wife and four children. David retired from the US Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel on December 15, 2001.
David relocated to Hughes Springs, TX, in 1979, where he worked and retired from Scot Industries, held various positions within the church, and loved his family and community with devotion. David has served as a representative for the Gideons and has led many persons to the love and salvation of Jesus. “Mr. David,” as so many in the community called him, was quite proud of serving the children, families, and co-workers at Hughes Springs Head Start over the last several years. His funny antics, dressing up as “Cat In The Hat” for story-telling time, filled many hearts with joy and laughter. David is a giant among men, strived to win souls for the Lord at every turn, and remained a faithful soldier, beloved husband, endearing father, and joyful friend to all.
During his military service, David was exposed to Agent Orange which led to his long battle with cancer and ultimately, his death. David B. Sprague passed away at his home with his wife by his side on August 10, 2020.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Patricia A. Sprague, of Daingerfield, TX; his children: Steven (Mary) Sprague of Johnsonville, SC; Dawn (John) LeMay of Edwards, CA; Jonathan (Jamye) Sprague of Waterville, KS, and Rachel (Frank) Moreno of Hughes Springs, TX; grandchildren: Sarah, Jeremy, Jesse, Alexander, Adam, Keegan, Jade, Zackery, Logan, Jeffrey, Ayla, and Maxwell; eight great-grandchildren; and many other relatives including his sister, Virginia of NC; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Rachel and family I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. David was a wonderful man. He was an inspiration to me. I feel blessed to have known him. He always had a smile and something to say.
Prayers for y’all.
Rachel,
Thinking about you & all your family during this sad time.
David was one of the most caring, loving, and patient man that I have known. Who always greeted you with a handshake and a warm smile. He was always the best husband and father he could be to his family, as well as a spiritual leader in the community. His selfless ministering to youth and old alike helped many on the path to let Jesus into there hearts, and ease thier troubles. Now it's his time to walk the path home into the Loving arms of his Father and rest.
We'll miss you! God speed.
May our heavenly Father wrap his loving arms around each of you for total comfort.
Mr. David was a Precious Friend and Great Man of God. Mr. David always hugged me at Church and said "Hey Kid, how are you doing". Mr. David will be greatly missed. 💙
Love you Dad!
