Alex Troy Samples

alex samples

Alex Troy Samples of Avinger, Texas was called home to rest by our heavenly Father, Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the age of 59.  He was the 6th child born to the late Neal Baxter Samples and the late Muriel Troy (Story) Samples on August 10, 1961 in Pasadena, Texas.

Alex owned/operated Al's Concrete Construction and worked many jobs with and for his brothers in the Piney Woods and surrounding areas for the last four decades.

Al was a simple man with a unique style all his own.  He had an original sense of humor and would laugh telling his own jokes and comical phrases.  He valued intelligence, good moral character and was a man of his word.  He loved his family and friends, his birds, fishing his "honey holes", playing guitar, karaoke, a good game of pool, eating a good meal, and took pride in his land.  He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

Alex is survived by six siblings residing in Texas-Joan Moldt of Avinger, Gail Cooper (Richie) of Houston, Bruce Samples (Anne) of Hughes Springs, Emmitt Samples (Mary) of Avinger, Virginia Swanson (Ron) of Magnolia and Greg Samples of Avinger.  His nieces and nephews, Tish, Ty, Tawnya, Sean, Kim, Danielle, Whitney, Rebecca, Todd, Tanner, Colton, Bryanne, Brittany and many great nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.  Alex was known as their "Candy man" and they always looked forward to his visits.

Alex is reunited with those who preceded his death-his parents, grandparents, many aunts and uncles and the love of his life, Kris.

A celebration of Alex's life is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the Reeder-Davis Chapel in Hughes Springs.  All are welcome to attend.

  1. I have had the honor of knowing the Sample family since 7th grade. Alex sister Virginia has been my best friend since. I have been in all their presence at some time or other. They all treated me like family. Alex was the funny one of the bunch and always full of life. I know he will be missed by so many. God Speed Alex . We will see you again. With great sympathy ~~~Connie

  2. I spoke with Alex on his bday around 4:30pm. He said he was very tired from working that day. We had a fun conversation about eating oysters and was in good spirits! I wished him a happy bday and asked if he got his card! He said yes! And thanked me for the $20 dollars! You would have thought I had given him $100 dollars, he was so thankful!! That’s how Alex was, so thankful for whatever anyone did for him!! We exchanged ‘I love you’ and Happy Birthday! So glad I got to talk to him that evening! God bless him! I’ll miss him.
