Services for Erma Jean Barnes will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Hughes Springs Community Church under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home of Hughes Springs.
Erma Casteel Barnes was born January 28, 1947 in Hooks, Texas to the parentage of Brevon and Christeen Casteel. She was the fifth child of ten children. She joined Red Bank Baptist Church at an early age. She served on the usher board as well as any other place she was needed within the church. She was educated in the Hooks Public School system for eleven years, moving to Los Angeles, California, where she graduated in the year 1965 from Los Angeles High School.
After graduation, she moved back to Hooks, Texas where she became employed with Red River Army Depot. During that time she met and married Marvin Barnes. She moved to Hughes Springs, Texas where she united with Liberty United Methodist Church and what is now Hughes Springs Community Church. Erma was a faithful member until her health started to decline.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Barnes; parents, Brevon and Christeen Casteel; three adult sisters; three infant sisters; and one nephew.
She leaves to cherish her memories, daughter, Lessie Merle (Johnathan) Holliday of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; brothers, Eddie (Emma) Casteel of New Boston, Texas. Lonzia (Julia) Casteel of Maywood, Illinois; sister, Marie Credit of Texarkana, Texas; three grandchildren, Stacianna Lewis, Acocia Askew, Benjamin Askew; five great-grandchildren, Amani and Robert Finney, Jr., Kingston and, Khylie Jackson and Avery Askew; special niece, Sheila Casteel of Mawood, Illinois; special nephew, Erik Allen of Texarkana, Texas; special cousins, Rose King and Vera Shed, whom she thought of as her sisters; special friends, Altheia Williams, Lisa Martin, Stacey Lewis; special and dear to her heart was, three year old grandson of Erik Allen and Sherquis Watkins, Ja'Kayden Strickland, whom she thought of as a grandson; and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Ms Jean was always kind and a very sweet person. She was more like family. She will be truly missed. I will continue to make you proud. Sleep on and take your rest. We love you!!

Aunt Erma Jean Always had a smile and kind words. Memories of visiting her in Hughes Springs where among some of my best childhood memories.
I will always have fond memories of Aunt Erma Jean. She was always so kind and sweet to me. Rest well.
Joining this family 56 years ago today started a long wonderful relationship with Erma. We miss her. Visiting Texas will not be quite the same.
