June 25, 1970 ~ December 21, 2019
Alan Wayne “Hoss” Powell was born on June 25, 1970. He died peacefully after his battle with cancer at Longview Regional Hospital surrounded by his family on December 21, 2019. Hoss was the son of Becky Powell and the late Wayne Powell.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer Gant Powell and their two daughters, Kyleigh and Aubreigh of Avinger, TX. He is also survived by his grandmother Enoice Rogers of Marietta, TX, mother Becky Powell of Hughes Springs, TX, brother Jon Powell of Carrolton, TX, sister Melissa Powell and nephew Jesus of Longview, TX, four aunts and one uncle, Pat Rogers of Dallas, TX, Elaine and Robert Phipps of Houston, TX, Linda Goddar d of Edmund, OK, and Nancy Thompson of Covington, OK, also his in-laws Joyce and Greg Gant of Daingerfield, TX, brother-in-law and his wife Jeff and Bethani Gant and their children of Whitesboro, TX. Hoss also had many great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins who he loved very much.
He was preceded in death by his father Wayne Powell, his grandfather Dewey Rogers, and grandparents AC and Lois Powell.
Hoss worked for the Cass County Sheriff’s Office from the age of 21 until his passing. He started out as a jailer, eventually went through the academy to become a Sheriff’s Deputy and was finally promoted to Investigator. He loved his job and treated everyone he met with the respect they deserved. He was a hard worker and passionate about his job as well as being loved by all whose lives he touched, and he will be missed by all who knew him. He loved his job so much that he wanted to give back to his lifelong career even after death by donating his body to Forensic Anthropology Society at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX.
A memorial for Hoss Powell will be held on January 11, 2020, at 2:00 in the Peace Officers’ Club, 1031 CR 1913, Linden, TX. Anyone who would like to say a few words are more than welcome to speak. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Texas Fallen Officer Foundation at texasfof.org.

My prayers go out to this very sweet guys family. Hoss was always so nice to everyone in my family. I remember my brother being locked up in County, and our aunt passed away. Hoss brought my brother to the funeral home so he could pay his respects. He always treated everyone the same. I’m so very sorry for his families loss.
