Alford James Montgomery

James Alford Montgomery was born on December 4, 1950, to Lorenza Montgomery and Minnie Lee Montgomery. He passed away on April 26, 2026.

James was a very outgoing man who never met a stranger and was blessed with many friends. He loved his family deeply, especially his grandchildren, of whom he was very proud. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and in his younger days, he enjoyed riding motorcycles. He retired from U.S. Steel and later worked as an auto mechanic until his health began to fail.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenza and Minnie Lee Montgomery; and his sisters, Glendora Brown and Avalene Hatten.

James leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Brittany Surratt and Whitney Surratt; his grandchildren, Zaliyah Mitchell, Evan Mitchell, Kadence Griffin, and Layken Robbins; his siblings, Loretta Wesson, Alvin Montgomery, and W.S. Chism; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

The family will hold a private burial at a later date. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Reeder-Davis Funeral Home of Hughes Springs.
