Amy Catherine Whatley passed away at her home on Sunday, September 7, 2025. She was born on June 16, 1969, in Texarkana, Texas, to John Haskell Wilson and Alice Williams Wilson.
Amy lived life with joy and spirit, always known as the life of the party. She was bubbly, stubborn in the best of ways, and cherished for being the “fun aunt.” She had a gift for entertaining and decorating, and her creativity and warmth left lasting impressions on everyone who knew her. Amy loved playing games, sharing laughter, and creating memories with family and friends.
A graduate of Atlanta High School, Amy proudly served in the band as a flute player, cheered with spirit as a cheerleader, and brought energy to the sidelines as the Atlanta Rabbits mascot. She later went on to own and operate Tanner’s Mercantile in Linden, where her passion for style and community shone brightly.
Above all, Amy treasured her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and wife, whose presence made every gathering special. Her Thanksgiving dressing was a family favorite and will be lovingly remembered as part of her legacy of care and tradition.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice Wilson; her first husband, Andy Washington; grandchild, Baby Best; nieces, Amy Lauren White; great niece, Lucy Claire Wicks; great nephew, Baby Boy Young; father-in-law, Milton Washington, father-in-law, Jerry Whatley. She is survived by her loving husband, Mr. Curtis Whatley; daughter, Kelsey Best (John); son, John Tanner Washington; daughter, Casey Pate; daughter, Whitney Leigh Cooner (Randy); son, Ryan Whatley; grandchildren: Sawyer, Judson, Kinsler, Brooks, and Collyns; sisters: Jonette White (Clay), Sharon Cook (Pat), Cherise Wicks (Stephen); sisters-in-law, Karen Whatley, Darla Washington Chitsey (Troy); brother-in-law, Darren Washington (Deana); first mother-in-law, Mrs. Stella Washington; mother-in-law, Mrs. Nelva Whatley; special friends, Beth Boyd, and Leanne Reece; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
