Barbara Nelson, born October 29, 1932 passed away December 9, 2009 in Hughes Springs, Texas. She was preceded in death by Horace Nelson, her husband of 53 years. She is survived by four children: son Gene, of Houston, Texas and his wife Rebecca, son Rick of Hughes Springs, Texas and his wife Amy, daughter Pam Stephens of Lewisville, Texas and her husband Bill, and son David of Raleigh, North Carolina and his wife Kathleen; and twelve grandchildren: Jeff and his wife Molly, Emily, Clayton, Brett, Sarah and her husband Keith, Heather, Caitlin, Andrew, Hannah, Logan, Peyton, and Joshua. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Prior to the sickness that incapacitated her during her later years she was active in her churches, St. Josephs parish in Richardson, Texas and Our Lady of the Gulf in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and then attended First Baptist Church Hughes Springs in recent years. She served as a volunteer at the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge in Gulf Shores along with other community service organizations. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wipe Out Kids Cancer (6350 LBJ Freeway, Suite 162, Dallas, TX 75240/www.wokc.org).
