Funeral services for Barbara June Smith Murphy, 66, of Hughes Springs will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 21, 2011 at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Ricky Vestal and Bro Jeremy Cain officiating. Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. of Hughes Springs. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 P.M., Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the funeral home. Mrs. Murphy was born January 8, 1945 to Willie and Lera Smith and died October 18, 2011 at her home in Hughes Springs. She was a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband Tommie R. Murphy; sons Tommie R. Murphy, Jr. and Michael D. Murphy ,of Hughes Springs, and Mark A. Murphy and wife Karen, of Balch Springs, TX; brothers Bobby L. Smith and friend Teresa McGee and Roger G. Smith and wife Lynn, all of Hughes Springs; grandchildren Dawson L. Murphy and Karlee J. Murphy, of Balch Springs, TX.; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by a daughter Mandy Ann Murphy.

  7. I was so sorry to hear of Barbara's passing. She had such a great influence on so many of us growing up. She was a very, special woman. She was strong enough to raise 3 boys, be a wonderful wife, friend and mentor. Heavaen is sweeter today because she is there. I pray for comfort for the entire family during this time of sorrow. Thank you to you all for sharing her with us, even for just a little while.

  12. When I think of Barbara I immediately think of a jolly, loving person with a big smile. She loved people and enjoyed living life to its fullness.   14. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Barbara. Even though I have not seen or talked to her in years. I always remember her smiling face that we would see every Sunday morning at church. My prayers go out to her family.

  16. Barbara was a wonderful and cheerful person that will be missed. I enjoyed talking with her about our family genealogy. We were supposed to meet this Fall, and we had just exchanged some family information. I hope some of the family will share her precious work on the Smith family for all to see. My brother, Rodney, and I will continue working on the Burrow genealogy. I feel badly that she did not get to finish her work, but the work that she did will be valued for generations to come. She was a compassionate and caring person with a lot of style and grace.She will be missed.
