LINDEN, TX- Funeral services for Ben Lloyd Salmon, 83, of Linden, Texas will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at First United Methodist Church of Linden with Rev. Kevin Young officiating. Burial will follow at Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home in Linden. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, May 23, 2011. Mr. Salmon was born on August 4, 1927 in Avinger, Texas to Robert Young Salmon and Lena Belle (Frazior) Salmon. He passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at a hospital in Longview. He served his country in the United States Army. He graduated from the University of Houston. He worked for 41 years at Stewart & Stevenson. He was a scout leader, Sunday School Teacher, and President of Administrative Management Society of Houston. He enjoyed growing pine trees and managing his farm for over 30 years. His kind and gentle spirit will be missed. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Clara Alice Salmon; daughter, Clara Kathleen Mendola; son, Charles Robert Salmon (Marilou Salmon); grandchildren, Mark Mendola (Jennifer); Charles Michael Salmon; Sarah Mendola (Nikolay Vydashenko); Robert Ben Salmon and Kimberly Ann Salmon; great-grandchildren, Ben Mendola and Gus Mendola as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by siblings, Robert Salmon, Geraldine Baber, Jack Spike Salmon, Esther Pippen, James C. Salmon and Thomas A. Salmon. Memorial may be made to Linden United Methodist Church, MD Anderson Hospital of Houston or Texas Childrens Hospital of Houston.

Our thoughts and prayers to Grandma Salmon (Clara Alice), Kathleen, Sarah and Nick, and our "shared" family (Mark, Jennifer, Ben and Gus). Gentlemen such as Ben was are hard to find outside of the South!
Ben was such a sweet man and will be missed so much by everyone that knew him. He was one of the best.
Our prayers are with the family. We feel blessed to have known Ben for the short time we did.
God Bless you as you come together as a family to celebrate the life of Mr. Ben. He will be greatly missed and often remembered. If you need something, anything at all please call the church first and let us know. The youth ministry has students who are standing by to pray for you, work for you at no charge, move stuff, clean a yard or just have a bar-b-que with you to celebrate life. I enjoyed getting to talk with Mr. Salmon. about the deer lease and how the newly planted pine trees where doing. After my father passed away it was nice getting to talk to the both of you. I am so sorry for your loss. if there is anything I can do or you need please call 903-244-3272
