LINDEN, TX- Funeral services for Ben Lloyd Salmon, 83, of Linden, Texas will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at First United Methodist Church of Linden with Rev. Kevin Young officiating. Burial will follow at Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home in Linden. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, May 23, 2011. Mr. Salmon was born on August 4, 1927 in Avinger, Texas to Robert Young Salmon and Lena Belle (Frazior) Salmon. He passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at a hospital in Longview. He served his country in the United States Army. He graduated from the University of Houston. He worked for 41 years at Stewart & Stevenson. He was a scout leader, Sunday School Teacher, and President of Administrative Management Society of Houston. He enjoyed growing pine trees and managing his farm for over 30 years. His kind and gentle spirit will be missed. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Clara Alice Salmon; daughter, Clara Kathleen Mendola; son, Charles Robert Salmon (Marilou Salmon); grandchildren, Mark Mendola (Jennifer); Charles Michael Salmon; Sarah Mendola (Nikolay Vydashenko); Robert Ben Salmon and Kimberly Ann Salmon; great-grandchildren, Ben Mendola and Gus Mendola as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by siblings, Robert Salmon, Geraldine Baber, Jack Spike Salmon, Esther Pippen, James C. Salmon and Thomas A. Salmon. Memorial may be made to Linden United Methodist Church, MD Anderson Hospital of Houston or Texas Childrens Hospital of Houston.

  1. Our thoughts and prayers to Grandma Salmon (Clara Alice), Kathleen, Sarah and Nick, and our "shared" family (Mark, Jennifer, Ben and Gus). Gentlemen such as Ben was are hard to find outside of the South!
