Billy Russell Beene
February 14, 1933 ~ September 1, 2016
Billy Russell Beene, 83, of Linden passed away September 1, 2016. Mr. Beene was born February 14, 1933 in Bloomburg, TX to Jesse Howard and Arlene Hill Beene. He was a graduate of L-K High School, attended University of Texas and graduated from Texas Tech University with a mechanical engineer degree. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight line chief. Other employment was with the Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was a registered professional engineer. Linden community service was with the cemetery committee, two terms as a member of the city council and various committees. Served as commander of the American Legion Post 105 for four years.
He was very active in the Linden United Methodist Church and was Past Master of Masonic Lodge 192. Other lodge affiliations was with Scottish Rite and Sharon Shrine of Waco, TX. He was a Staunch supporter of Masonic Childrens Home in Ft. Worth, TX and Shriners Circus.
Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Viona Beene of Linden; two sons, Edward Beene and wife, Paula of Bristol, CT., Billy J. Beene of New Britian, CT; two step-sons, Gary Hicks and wife, Monica of Blanchard, LA., Michael Hicks and wife, Susan of Hallsville, TX; step-daughter, Cynthia Mattal and husband, Larry of Lafayette, LA.; one granddaughter, Jennifer Walsh and husband, Jason of Monroe, LA.; one grandson, Jesse Beene of Briston, CT., several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and numerous friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, L.L. and Arlene (Hill) Ezell; step-son, Thomas Hicks; uncles, Ansel Hill, Bennett Hill, Alton Hill and Aunt Buena Mae Hoague.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 5, 2016 at the Linden United Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Bedevian and James McMillan officiating. Burial will follow in the Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.
There will be a time of visitation from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to Linden United Methodist Church and the Shriners Hospital in Shreveport, LA.
