Charles Laverne Russell was born February 16, 1929, in Toone, Tennessee, to Charlie and Lois (Mitchell) Russell. He went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 18, 2025, in Texarkana, Texas.
Bro. Charles Russell dedicated more than 77 years to the ministry, beginning his preaching journey at just 16 years old. He was ordained at the age of 17 at First Baptist Church in Talco, Texas. Throughout his life, he faithfully served numerous congregations across northeast Texas, including a 17-year pastorate at First Baptist Church of Linden.
After retiring as Associational Missionary for the Dogwood Trails Association in Jacksonville, Texas, Bro. Russell continued his ministry as Pastor of Turkey Creek Baptist Church in Hughes Springs, where he served for more than 25 years.
He was an avid fisherman, woodworker, and hunter, but above all, he was a man who loved the Lord deeply and lived to share the gospel. Bro. Russell didn’t just preach the truth; he lived it.
Bro. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Lois Russell, and by his beloved wife, Deane Russell. He is survived by his sons, Wayne Russell and wife Lindy, and John David Russell and wife Kathy; his brothers, Jerry Russell and Rhodney Russell and wife Mary Ann; five grandchildren: Audra Steindorf and husband Mike, Mark Russell and wife Kristin, John Paul Russell, Ben Russell, Julia Russell; seven great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Katherine, and Emily Steindorf, Major and Blaire Russell, Claire and Aiden Russell. Sister-in-law, Colleen Rumsey Rountree. Three nephews and one niece. An aboundance of friends and people whose lives were changed because of his witness for Jesus.
Though he has finished his race here on earth, we rejoice knowing he is now in the presence of our Savior.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Linden Cemetery Association, or your charity of choice.

His wife and family were also so nice and they seemed like what you look for in a
Christian and Pastor family.
I know he is smiling in heaven.

Bro Russell is OUR PASTOR. He was always a loving Shepard and friend to our family. And then he was family when Kathy and John David married. He was with us in joys and sorrows. He was a blessing to all who knew him. I can only imagine the Heavenly celebration on Friday. Edd and I loved Bro Russell.
