 Mahlon Edward Rorex (Mickey) passed away December 11, 2020 at the age of 68.

Mahlon (AKA: Mickey, Poppy, Pop Mic, Bro. Mickey) was born on January 27, 1952 in Freeport, Texas to M.B. (Happy) and Flora (Sweet) Rorex.

He graduated from Brazosport High School, East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, Texas and earned a Master of Ministry from Andersonville Theological Seminary.

Mickey leaves behind his legacy to his cherished wife of 49 years, Debbie; daughter Mistie and her husband Ricky of Hughes Springs; his son Phillip of Hughes Springs and daughter, Megan Grant and husband Josh of Avinger, Texas. Poppy found great fulfillment with his 7 grandkids; Austin, Mason, Bella, Ashlynn, Kendall, Layla and Gatlin; in-laws include Margie Rorex,  David & Debbie Beasley;  Betty Guerrant; beloved nieces and nephews and a multitude of lifelong friends including Sherry Stanfield, Tim & Brenda Ellis.

Mickey pastored many East Texas churches over his 47 years of ministry including 23 years at First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs and his last at Cass County Cowboy Church, Atlanta. He also worked at Cass County Adult Supervision as a Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional for nine years.

He proudly served in the US Army in the early 70’s and the Texas State Guard after 9/11, and he was profoundly patriotic.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Debbie’s parents, C. A. & Willie Fay Beasley; granddaughter, Gracie Elizabeth; brother, Jimmy; sisters, Barbara & Judy and nephew, Brad; and lifelong friend, Jackie Stanfield.

  5. If you want proof that God doesn’t make mistakes, all you have to do is look at Mickey or my daddy! If you need evidence that best friends are forever, you could look at Daddy & Mickey as well. I cannot believe they’re both with Jesus now. My daddy, and my stand in daddy; both are gone but will live in our hearts forever. Love you Poppy.

  7. Love & prayers. Many special memories of a man we've known from childhood. A man who loved his Lord, his family, and any one he came in contact with.

  10. Debbie, Mistie, Phillip & Megan and grandkids~ our hearts are heavy. We have so many childhood/high school/ church memories of Mickey that we laugh at some then we cry at others. Thank you for sharing us on y’all’s beach vacations. July 2020 time was one of the best fellowship we had. Laughed so hard at Family stories it was priceless. Mickey was like my 2nd brother and I couldn’t of asked for anyone better. You left this earth way too soon, but you left behind an amazing family, we know you will walk beside them everyday, unseen, unheard but Always near them. You are loved, miss and so Mickey you Go Rest High on that Mountain.

  11. Mickey has been rewarded with His Father’s blessing, ‘well done, My good and faithful servant.’ What a blessed reward! Our hearts are deeply saddened for Mickey’s sweet family. Praying that the Lord of all peace wraps the family in His arms and they feel the mighty presence of their Savior as they move through their grief.

  12. I only had the pleasure to meet the preacher once? That was when my son and myself made a trip out west to visit with an old friend, Tex. He opened his home up to us like he had known us for life! Won't ever forget the impression he left on us. Bigger than life his Love for his family is what sticks out to me the most. Love you guys! Many prayers are with yawll!

  13. This wonderful man meant so much to our family. He will always be remembered as our favorite pastor at Myrtle Springs Church. Rock those red toenails in heaven Mickey. We love you.

  14. Mickey could always make anyone smile. He could light up a room! He gave the best advise and he shared his joy often! Prayers for all of his family at this time of grief! He will always hold a special place in out hearts!

  16. I'm so sorry, guys. Pop Mick was a true light to me and we shared some beautiful memories. So many shared beautiful memories of Mickey. We are the sole owners of those memories now. He's rejoicing in Heaven.
