Graveside services for Mr. Bruce Dedman, Jr., age 100, of Ore City, will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Ore City Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City. There will be a time of visitation with the family beginning at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the cemetery.
Bruce Ivy Dedman, Jr. was born October 24, 1923 in Fordyce, Arkansas to Bruce I. Dedman, Sr. and Girlie Warren Dedman. Bruce graduated from Fordyce High School. He went on to study at Henderson State Teachers College and Louisiana Polytechnic College, Columbia University Midshipman’s School, and Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in May of 1950. He served in the United States Navy Pacific Theater of World War II. He was stationed on the USS Queens as a Deck Officer. It was there that he met his wife, Katy. His unit transported her MASH hospital unit. They were married in Norfolk, Virginia on May 5, 1946. Bruce was hired at Lone Star Steel Company in 1950 and worked his way up from a student chemist to Vice President of Quality Control and Technical Services before his retirement in 1986. Mr. Dedman was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Ore City and belonged to several civic organizations, such as Boy Scouts of America, Ore City Lions Club, and Girl Scouts of America, as well as several professional organizations. Bruce enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, sailing, gardening, bee keeping, and mineral collecting.
Bruce was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Katherine Alivia Boone Dedman.
He is survived by his children: Bruce I. Dedman, III and partner Eileen Camp, Janet Dedman Smith and spouse Dennis Smith, Rebecca Dedman Lovell and spouse Michael Lovell, Betty Ro Dedman and spouse Phillip Wayne Stead; grandchildren, Millie Minor Gibson, Matthew Minor, Michael M. Lovell, Will Lovell, Melissa Dedman Mayer, and James Dedman; many great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

I admired your integrity, intelligence, honesty and sense of humor among other things. You were a wealth of knowledge and Iβll miss our interesting discussions. My father, Charles E Wallace, worked with Mr Dedman at Lone Star Steel for many years. He always thought so much of him and his wife and family. Many prayers for all his family.

He is a great man , we lived across from each other for over 20 yrs , he would come over to check on me after my son died & we would just sit & talk about his wife & family , he told me last year he was going to live to see 100 .will miss him , my thoughts and prayers for his family

To say that I loved and adored Mr. Dedman and Mrs. Dedman would be an understatement – they made such a huge difference in my life with their empathy and support for me. I loved just being near them and witnessing their love and devotion to each other. I rejoice in knowing they are again together with the Lord. Theyβre strolling over heaven arm in arm and heart to heart. Bruce and Janet, I just read your dad’s obit. I’m so sorry for your loss! I remember him and seeing all you guys at the lake with Frank and Rose Nell and their kids. I know you miss him and your mom. Love, Dinah
