Graveside services for Byron Lorenzo Stewart, 88, of Hughes Springs will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 at Harris Chapel Cemetery near Hughes Springs with Bro. Curt Beadle and grandson Tommy Stewart Jr. officiating. Mr. Stewart will lie in state this morning and afternoon, and the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. in Hughes Springs.. Mr. Stewart was born on November 11, 1922 in the Harris Chapel Community near Hughes Springs. He passed away on October 11, 2011 at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. He worked hard all his life to provide for his family. On March 1, 1943, he married Birdie Mae Ball in San Francisco. He retired after 33 years at Lone Star Steel. He and his wife both worked in shipyards of San Francisco during World War II. Through the years he belonged to Pruitt Lake and later Veal Switch Baptist churches, leading singing and helping with construction during building phases. He love to shoot rifles with friends. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Birdie Stewart of Hughes Springs; two sisters Mary Biddy of Jefferson and Marie Keasler of Linden; four sons and two daughters-in-law Bobby and Darlene Stewart of Hughes Springs, Donny Stewart of Hughes Springs; Tommy and MiSchelle Stewart of Daingerfield, and Ricky Stewart of Hughes Springs; eight grandchildren,13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was a member of Veal Switch Baptist Church.
