Funeral services for Elder C L Rivers, 89, of Mt. Pleasant will be 2 PM, Friday, July 9, 2010 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Daingerfield with Elder L. C. Webster officiating. Burial will be in Rivers Cemetery in Daingerfield under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. Elder C L Rivers was born on September 10, 1920, to General and Rosie Rivers in Daingerfield, Texas and passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2010 in Mt. Pleasant. He attended school in the community of Mt. Moriah and served as a Carpenter in Daingerfield and the surrounding area. In 1942~1946, Elder Rivers served his country by joining the United States Army and fought in World War II. Elder Rivers served as pastor of Love Pentecostal Church until it consolidated with the Victory Temple Church in Daingerfield, Texas. Later he served as Victory Temples Assistant Pastor until his health failed. He married Dovie Mae Grant January 19, 1969 in Daingerfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters Lucile Hill, Annie Hayes and Hervell Sparks; three brothers, Ethon, Haron, and Playmon Rivers. He is survived by his wife Dovie Mae Rivers of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters Zelma Cyphers and Arlene Manuel of Witchita, KS; two sisters-in-law Bessie King of Cason and Hazel Jones of Ore City; three brothers-in-law John Carter of Boston, MA, Harold Wilkerson of Dallas, Charlie Wilkerson of Las Vegas, NV and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Elder Rivers will lie in state on Thursday, July 8th afternoon and evening with a wake service from 7-8 PM at the funeral home in Hughes Springs.
