Funeral services for Carrie J. Smith, 76, of Cason, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29 at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Cason with Elder Bobby A. Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery under direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. of Hughes Springs. Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, Nov. 26 in a Longview hospital. She was born May 13, 1932 in Morris County. She attended Rosewall Elementary in Cason and graduated from Rhodes High School in Daingerfield. She was a member of the Prayer Garden Church of God in Christ in Cason. Mrs. Smith will lie in state Friday afternoon until 5 p.m., and Saturday morning until noon at the funeral home. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Charles Smith of Cason; three sons and daughters-in-law Charles Jr. and Applezene Smith of Omaha; Darrell and Marie Smith ; and Clifford Dwayne Smith, all of Cason; one daughter Myrtle Sue and Joe Rivers of Grand Prairie; three sisters Catherine and Willie Allen of Los Angeles; Mildred Smith Nelson of Cason; and Mary Lois and Lieutenant Gholston of Dallas; six grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by two brothers Robert Jr. and Fred Bennett. Friends may leave condolences or fond memories for the family at www.Reeder-Davis.com.

To a person who meet no strangers she was one of da best grandmother any one would want 2 be raised and loved by. grandma and granddad were unit for 60 years they loved 2 live and loved everyone. I Derrick smith was there first born grandson they loved all us treated us like gold. I just want my grandad 2 know that she will be missed but she still lives thru us so every time he sees one of us he will see a part of her in us. oh my grandma I know god had 2 have u I just know he has an angel a wonderful woman she is so beautiful in love and in kindness. grandma and granddad dis is from all of ur grand kids we love u with all of our heart yall did us rite. we love u grandad and grandma will never be forgotten but u will be missed. grandma dis is KoKo I love u grandma I miss u so much u were always der 4 me when I needed u me u always snuck and gave me money coming up and you would say don't tell know one. Love u grandma.

  4. To my family, I know that lives have been torn apart by this tragdey. My heart goes out to everyone. She will be missed so dearly. To Grandmomma….No words can ever say how much I miss you.I bare strength knowing that God has you in his arms and you'll be doing his great work now. You will always be remembered and we love you so dearly. Family no amount of tears will bring grandmomma back but as a very inspiritional person always tells me, hang on, God already has this battle won. Thanks to my wonderful mother-in-law, Appezene, for those encourgaing words have given me the strength that I need to get through this and I hope you take her advice and do the same. One last thing, a family that prays together stays together so family let's do it how grandmomma would want. Although we never had the privilege of meeting and knowing Mrs. Carrie Smith, we certainly know her daughter Myrtle who is an inspiration to us, and it is said the apple falls not far from the tree.
