Cody Fitzgerald

cody fitzgerald

Services for Cody Fitzgerald, 39, will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2021 at First United Methodist Church in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the church.

William Cody Fitzgerald was born August 31, 1982 and passed away October 12, 2021 at his home in Hughes Springs. Cody was preceded in death by his grandparents, Margaret Fitzgerald, R.C. Fitzgerald, Bobby Doss, and Carl Harrison.

He is survived by his mother, Sherri Bennett and husband, James; father, Billy Ray Fitzgerald; grandmother, Jean Doss; siblings, Keri Fitzgerald, Tommy Bartuska, Jennifer Jallo and husband, Jason, Larry Bennett and wife, Elizabeth; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and his best buddy, Roscoe.

Cody was the most sensitive asshole on the planet. His ability to make you question your intelligence was that of wizardry. He had a 6th sense. That sense was when there was only one more beer or the last bag of chips. He always got them; and figured a way to trick you into bringing it to him!

Not only was he a sensitive caring man, he was a point of light. When he walked in the room you knew he was there because he would make it known. He graduated from Hughes Springs High School in 2001 and would later work his way up in the world. He knew how to laugh, he always joked but never out of malice. He could tease your ass to end of the earth though. There have been many tears shed over the last few days and rightfully so. We lost a beautiful soul in Cody. We know he would have also wanted a bunch of stories and a bunch of laughs too. Today we honor that light that will be kept in everyone's hearts forever.

He is survived by his family and a gigantic group of friends who he touched in one way or another in his years with us. Thank you again for being here, for loving him and for being his friend.  He certainly considered you his.

Don't forget that he'd be rolling his eyes at everyone crying so dry it up and have a cheers for him!

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I always enjoyed teaching Cody. He really kept it interesting in class! I am sorry for your loss. I will miss him.

  2. Cody has lived a life surrounded by a family who has welcomed so many, including me into their wide drawn circle. I am thankful that I got to spend time with CO thanks to his sister Keri and his mom Sherri. His humor, joking around and infectious smile is cemented in my memory. His big heart has been a witness to me and taught many of us how to love and not judge. I will miss him and celebrate his life for a very long time.

  3. I worked with Cody at a few festivals here in SE Texas & he was a good coworker & an all around GREAT guy!!!
    He will loved & missed!!

    Fly high my friend!!!

  4. My heart is broken for you and the family. Was talking with Preston on when he was little and he was going over to keke’s and coco’s to hang out and eat his spinach. Good memories and will be forever missed.

  5. Sending prayers to all of you. So sad and so young. Such a sweet young man. You can see how so many loved him.

  6. Cody was with us so often, that I always teased he & Chris that Cody was my other son, and I could use Mom veto power on them both.
Thank goodness he was with us so often, always a big smile and at least one prank to keep everyone on their toes. We loved our time with him and send our deepest sympathy to your family at his loss. We will cherish all the memories we had with him.

  7. Sherri and family, I am so very sorry for your loss of Cody. Prayers for peace, comfort and strength in the days ahead. May God Bless you all.

  8. I had the great honor to be able to coach and teach Cody in high school. Cody was a very fine and honorable man. My deepest sympathy to his family. He will be greatly missed.

  9. O, Sherri, it was hard to go about a normal day Friday, trying to imagine the grief you would be experiencing when remembering Cody. I, too, have a thirty-nine year-old son. Just wanted you to know my heart was beside you then, and my prayers were and are with you constantly. Steve Russell
