David “Grumpy” Richard Aaron, of Linden, Texas, went to be with our Heavenly Father May 17, 2024. He was born to Regis and Betty Aaron in Warsaw, New York on November 5, 1954. Dave, also known as Grumpy, from childhood, grew up and went to school in Perry, New York, with his brothers and sisters. After high school, he joined the US Army. He was a Vietnam Veteran. Dave’s dad had a wrecker service, and his brothers built race cars and motorcycles. When he was a young man, about 14, he told his dad he wanted a car. Dad opened the back door to the shop, showed him all the cars in the yard, and said, “Build one” and so it began. Dave was a master fabricator and painter. He could build anything from a drawing, from slot car size to monster truck. He even turned an 87 Heritage Softtail Harley into a black bagger. He was a very talented man. He loved music, the history of the artist, and the process of being musically creative. Having grown-up rural, he was also a hunter and had a great appreciation for all animals, big and small. They all had a place in Grumpy’s heart.
Dave and his wife, Dawn, were married December 2, 2017, and retired to Linden, Texas, in October of 2021. He loved the country life, the peace and quiet, and the good people of First Baptist Church and the Linden community. He will be greatly missed.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn Aaron, his son, Tom, daughter, Amanda, son, Richard, daughter, Elizabeth; five brothers, Mike (Jill), Tom (Cathy), Jim (Janine), Larry (Carol), Brian (Groudon); one sister, Teresa; two grandchildren, Darrell and Cadence; and his cousin, Kay (Darrell) Eddie. A memorial service with military honors will be held for Grumpy, 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 21, 2024, at First Baptist Church under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden. A hog smoking BBQ is being planned for the end of October 2024 to put his ashes at his deer stand.
It was a pleasure and blessing to meet Dave. I told him how much appreciated his serve in the Army and was able to present him with a certificate of appreciation of service to his country from the AR-LA-TEX Chapter 69 of the Sons of the American Revolution. Go fly high brother.
