Delbert Barton

Delbert Oren Barton was born in Lufkin, Texas on August 20, 1955 to Clarence and Mary Ann (Melton) Barton.  He went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 9, 2024.  

Delbert graduated high school from Ore City High School and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Math and Physics from East Texas State University.  He worked as a statistical analysist and quality manager at Lone Star Steel in Lone Star, Texas; Morton Thiokol at Longhorn Army Ammunition Plant in Karnack, Texas; Alumax which later became known as ALCOA in Texarkana, Texas; JW Aluminum in Russellville, Arkansas; and Atlas Roofing in Daingerfield, Texas.

Delbert was an avid bird watcher and bicycle rider. He enjoyed the outdoors immensely.  

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Shandella (Godwin) Barton; daughter and son-in-law, Nikki and Jake Willett; first grandchild expected in April;  sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Johnny Smith; mother-in-law, Cora Gann; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Shelia and Jeff Sullivan, , Shelly Godwin, and Sharla and Scott Sandlin; nephews and nieces, Cody and Griselda Marett, Kyle and Kylie Smith, Jace Ryan and Allie Ryan; great nephews and great nieces, Bryce Marett, Brooklynn Marett, Kolt Smith and Kallan Smith; numerous other family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mary Ann Barton; bother, Duaine Barton; and father-in-law, Billy Gann.

A special thanks to all the staff and care providers at Hospice of Texarkana and Reunion Plaza Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center in Texarkana, Texas.

Funeral services for Delbert Barton will be held at Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City, Texas. The funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Reeder-Davis Chapel with a time of visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. and lasting until the service begins.

Private family burial will follow at Ore City Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City Texas.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Hospice of Texarkana, 2407 Galleria Oaks Drive, Texarkana, Texas 75503.
