Derrol "DD" Dean Baldwin

Derrol Dean Baldwin, age 88, went home to be with the his Lord and Savior on February 13, 2021. He was born in Wister, Oklahoma on April 21, 1932 toWilliam Troy and Ester Baldwin.  He moved to East Texas 1952 and never thought of any other place as “home”. He worked for the Union Pacific and KCS railroads for a combined 44 years and retired in 1994. From that moment on he hunted quail and turkey, enjoyed going to ballgames and solving the world’s problems with anyone drinking coffee at the Country Store or the Feed Store.  He was well known throughout Cass County, especially in Hughes Springs and Linden. A man that never met a stranger or ever had an enemy. His laugh was infectious and his sense of humor contagious.  DD was an active member of the First Baptist Church and served in the choir for many decades. His love for the Lord was his first priority and his love for others was second.
 
He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Wanda Fant Baldwin, his parents, his two brothers and sister-in-laws, Ralph and Claudia Baldwin and Burl and Orlene Baldwin and his brother-in-law Pete Costner and son-in-law, Royce Henderson.
 
He is survived by his sister, Lucille Hogan of Ft. Smith, Ark., his son and daughter-in-law Ronny and Christy Baldwin of Linden, son Timothy Baldwin of Linden, son and daughter-in-law Kern and Pat Braswell of Tulsa. His daughter and son-in-law Kimberly and Donald Goerner of Cedar Park, daughters Emily Braswell Henderson of Tulsa and Hope Gatliff of Houston.  He was Granpa to Tyler and Travis Baldwin (great grand sons Lucas Dean and Eli Travis), Grayson, Riley and Bailey Goerner, Benjamin and Alex Gatliff, Katie Gibson(daughter Anslee) and Donna Allen (son Asher).  He is also survived by 2 cousins, Jocyle and Darlene, along many nephews and nieces.  His presence on earth will be sorely missed but his arrival in heaven was a celebration to behold.

Services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 22, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Linden with Bro. Charles Russell officiating. Burial to follow in the Linden Cemetery and under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.

There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Sunday evening at the funeral home.

The family has asked those who are attending the service to please wear mask and remember to social distance.

  1. Uncle DD was one the nicest people you would meet. He never met a stranger. He lived his faith everyday and taught others about his Lord. He loved all his nieces and nephews and never failed to ask how we were doing when we would see him. His legacy will live on in all the memories that we have. Know there was a joyous reunion with his sweetheart, Wanda Lee. Prayers f poi r his family.

  2. What an amazing life so well lived. One of the last true great guys! DD loved to visit, never met a stranger and cared for everyone. Such a solid rock at church, at the store or wherever he was. Rejoice in your precious memories of him. Praise God he is now in his heavenly home, well done DD, a good and faithful servant.

  4. DD Baldwin was one of the best men I've known. Hearing his humble prayers was listening in on one side of a conversation from a man who lived life with a gratitude for grace. His humor and kindness made the world a better place!

  5. I got to know DD at the coffee shop and found him to be a wonderful person as he was funny as could be such as "wanda was nice to me today she let me come drink coffee with you guys". Learned to really like him.

  6. So sorry for your loss. D.D. was a wonderful man and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Prayers for all of his family and friends. We will miss him at the Fant Reunion.

  7. His was a life well-lived. From seeing him for years at the Fant reunion, he blended into the family well and especially made my cousin Wanda happy. You are in my prayers at this time of parting.
