Services for Dewitt Jones, 97, of Naples will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Mt. Zion CME Church. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Mr. Jones was born March 19, 1924 and passed away October 18, 2021.

Dewitt Jones was born to Simmie Jones and Rosielee Everett on March 19, 1924. 

In the spring of 1945, he married Zadie Marie Carter and to this union, seven children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zadie; infant son, Charles E. Jones; two adult sons, James Jones and Larry Jones; one daughter, Doris Ann Bryant; parents; siblings, Dorothy Jones, Fannie Jones Rodgers, Mary L. Jones Mitchell, Charlene Jones Johnson, Nona Ruth Jones Barber, Robert Jones, and S.J. Jones.

Dewitt joined Mt. Zion Methodist Church at an early age. He attended Mt. Zion School and was a faithful member of Mt. Zion CME Church were he served as a trusted member of the Trustee Board for over 20 years. 

Dewitt was a man that loved God, his family , his country, and his community. Dewitt joined the Army in 1935. After retiring from Red River, he went to work at Lone Star Steel. He eventually retired from Lone Star Steel.

His bobbies were gardening and talking about his youth and growing up. 

He served his family with leadership, love, and strength. Members of the community have been blessed with the fresh vegetables from his second love, which was his garden. Dewitt also gave some of the best haircuts this side of Heaven. 

Dewitt Jones was a many with many gifts and talents and he shared them all with a smile that would remind you that no matter what you are going through, everything is going to be alright.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters Shirley Lewis (Naples, TX) Bennie Dickerson (Naples, TX); one son Willie Jones (Naples, TX); eleven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law Bessie King; one daughter-in-law Carolyn Jones; two cousins, A.J. Jones, Earnest Jones; and a host of nieces and nephews.
