Funeral services for Edna Newsom, 87, of Hughes Springs, will be at 10:30 P.M., Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Reeder-Davis Chapel in Hughes Springs with the Revs. Ricky Vestal and Dan Hill officiating. Burial will be at Sardis Cemetery near Hughes Springs under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. Mrs. Newsom died Feb. 18, 2009 at a Longview hospital. She was born September 3, 1921 in Elexia, Oklahoma. She was a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Newsom will lie in state Friday, February 20th afternoon and evening and the family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Lenora and Jimmy Long of Mount Pleasant; daughterin-law Linda Brown of Avinger; one grandson and his wife Lester and Penny Long of Nacogdoches; one sister Nellie Thompson of Modest, CA; four granddaughters and two sons-in-law Polly Samples of Avinger, Patty Shelman of Daingerfield, Rhonda and Brian Meadows of Avery, and Lisa and Bobby Richey of Arlington; one granddaughter-in-law Melody Long of Mount Vernon; 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Howard Brown and later by husband Zeke Newsom, one son Bro. John Brown and one grandson Jim Long Jr. and one sister Hattie Dodson.
