Funeral Services for Elwyn Ray Bill Cates, 85, of Hughes Springs will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Reeder-Davis Chapel in Hughes Springs with Revs. Tommie Estes and Richard Dowden officiating. Burial will be at Harris Chapel Cemetery in Hughes Springs under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. Mr. Cates was born February 29, 1924 in Hughes Springs. He died Sunday April 19, in a Longview hospital. He was a member of Harris Chapel Methodist Church, the American Legion, and he was a US Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific and he served in the Korean conflict. He retired from Lone Star Steel. Mr. Cates enjoyed music, and sang in a quartet at his church many years ago. Survivors include his wife Norma, one brother and two sisters-in-law James Tony and Patti Cates and Lynne Cates, all of Hughes Springs; and five daughters and sons-in-law Elaine Cates of Longview, Janie and Thomas King of Mesquite, Karen Clark of Hughes Springs, Sarah and Bob McDaniel of Arlington, and Misty Clark of Hughes Springs; one son and daughter-in-law Delwyn and Jackie Clark of Hughes Springs; and two grandchildren Paula and Samantha King of Mesquite. Visitation is 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday April 21, 2009 at the funeral home in Hughes Springs.
