Ercel Lewis Pyland was called home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Thursday, June 3rd. The son of Ercel and Zelpha Pyland, he was born in Prospect, Texas December 12, 1942. He is survived by his beloved wife Shirley; his children and their spouses - Misty and Scott Childs of Lindale; Shannon & Terry Norfleet of Mount Pleasant; and Damon and Jessica Nix of Lone Star. One brother, Phillip Pyland of Lindale. Five grandchildren - Andrew Childs, Janae Childs, Allison Norfleet, Lydia Nix and Anniston Nix; and his much loved pets, Mimi and Callie. Ercel was a graduating member of the Hughes Springs High School Class of 1960 prior to serving his country in the United States Navy. He received his Masters degree from Southern Methodist University and spent twenty-four years as a banker in Howe, Texas before returning to Northeast Texas and opening Pylands Used Cars in Lone Star. Visitation will be Saturday, June 5th from 6 to 8 pm at Reeder Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Funeral services will be Sunday, June 6th at 2 pm at the funeral home chapel with Reverend Larry Neeley officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be directed to Titus Regional Medical Foundation in Mount Pleasant or Pyland Cemetery in Avinger. Ercel was my first good friend in Avinger, TX. when we shared many times together in the 5th and 6th grades: riding his horse, pitching washers, play baseball, etc. We continued our friendship through high school even after my family moved to Hughes Springs. We shared many meals together at each other's homes. My condolences to all his family.Michael Grant
