Mr Fred Ivan Burney

Services for Fred Burney, 85, of Hughes Springs, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 27, 2026, in the chapel of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.

Fred Burney passed away on April 13, 2026. He was born March 7, 1941, in Wickes, Arkansas, to Ralph Marvin Burney and Lorene Faye Burney.

Fred graduated from Hughes Springs High School with the Class of 1959. He went on to attend the University of Texas, where he earned a degree in Physics and Pharmacology. During his time in pharmacy school, he was a member of the Rho Chi Honor Society.

He began his career as a pharmacist at Eckerd Drugs before owning and operating his own pharmacy in Vivian, Louisiana. Later, he applied his knowledge of physics in the field of metallurgy at U.S. Steel, where he worked until his retirement.

Fred was a thoughtful and quiet man who appreciated a simple life. He kept to himself and found joy in the outdoors, especially fishing and, in his younger years, hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James Orville “Jim” Burney; and his niece, Gianna Belosi.

He is survived by his brother, Henry Arlan Burney of Hughes Springs; his niece, Kathi Burney of Hughes Springs; his nephew, Phil Burney of Colleyville; two great-nieces and two great-nephews; as well as several cousins and friends.
