Funeral services for G. T. Starrett, 79, of Avinger will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday November 4 at First Baptist Church in Avinger with the Rev. Bob Crowder and Deborah Lynn Dugan officiating. Burial will follow at Avinger Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, November 3 in the afternoon and evening and the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. He died November 1, 2008 at a Jefferson Nursing Home. Mr. Starrett was born September 1, 1929 in Linden. He attended First Baptist Church in Avinger, served as Constable for 12 years, and served many years of the Avinger School Board and the board at Lone Star Credit Union. He was an avid fan of the Avinger Indians. Survivors include his wife Frances Leola Starrett of Avinger: three daughters and sons- in-law Deborah Lynn and Gary Dugan of Bullard, Tona Kay and Brad McCullough of Tyler, and Teresa Jo Starrett and James Johnson of Avinger; six grandchildren James Schellinger Jr., Bradley Wilson, Jarrod Wilson, Staci Schellinger, Sandra Wilson and Lauren Starrett; and six great-grandchildren Kyle and Beau Schellinger, Tucker, Ian and Kaleb Wilson, and Clint McKelvey.   7. This is a great loss. I only met him once but that was enough to know he will be missed. I have recently lost my dad and it is a hard time for us. We have to know they are in a better place. Just know my thoughts and prayers are with you.

  16. G. T. was one of the nicest men I have ever known. He always had something nice to say and was always happy. I never saw him when he was down. He had problems just like everyone else but he always tried to look on the bright side of things. I have missed his visits the last few months and he will be missed by many because of his cheerful attitude and winning smile.

  26. We were so sadden by the news of G.T's passing. He has been a friend as long as we can remember. He has told us many jokes and tried to predict the sex of all three of my granddaughters…Of course he was ALWAYS wrong. lol..we will truly miss running into him in town and of course at WAL-Marts. Gene bought his first car from G.T….you all will always be in our prayers. He was a great and treasured friend..
