Gene Girner

Imogene Johnson Girner (Gene) will be missed by everyone who knew her. Gene passed away Wednesday afternoon in Victoria, TX at the age of 93. Gene was born on January 1, 1928, to Ruth Pyland Johnson and Armand Johnson and grew up in Avinger. In her early 20’s Gene worked for Shell Oil in Kilgore, TX where she met the love of her life, Hank Girner. They married in 1952 and went on to have three daughters, Jeanne, Margaret and Patty. Over the years they lived in New Mexico, Louisiana, Arkansas and Missouri before moving back to Texas to be near family in 1996. They were married until Hank passed away in 2000. Gene was known for her selfless devotion and sacrifice for those she loved. She also had an incredibly generous spirit. She loved to read, experiment in the kitchen, talk with friends, go to church and play bridge, but most of all she was devoted to her family.
Gene is survived by her sister Wanda Hall of Avinger, TX; her three daughters, Jeanne DeZern of Baltimore, MD; Margaret Brozek of Victoria, TX; Patty Asaad of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at the Pyland Cemetery in Avinger on Saturday, August 28 at 3 pm.
