Georgia Elizabeth Everett was born in Daingerfield, Texas on May 16, 1933 to George Lewis and Gussie Marie Austin.  Her mother became very ill when Georgia was quite young.  After her mother’s passing, Georgia was lovingly raised by her maternal aunt, Versa Kate Jackson.  She was also devotedly nurtured and loved by her father and stepmother Irethia.  All preceded her in death.

Georgia began attending New Hope Missionary Baptist Church during her youth and accepted Christ at an early age.  She served in several ministries at New Hope—the Women’s Usher Board, Kitchen Ministry, and Adult Choir.

She attended J.J. Rhodes where she graduated and then went on to attend Prairie View University for a brief period.  Georgia was known all her life for her encouraging spirit, helpful nature, joy for life, infectious laughter, great sense of humor, wisdom, strength, and courage.  She was much beloved around her community with many people outside her family referring to her as “Mama Georgia,” “Miss Georgie” and “Georgia Mae.”  She answered to all the terms of endearment.

Georgia worked at Day & Zimmerman Ammunition Plant for many years as a supervisor and retired from Lone Star Steel as the hostess of their Lake House that served people from all over the world. Her warm spirit and gracious personality were a testament of how she could connect with anyone she served there. She volunteered in the community where she served as chair for the March of Dimes Drive in the Daingerfield area and as Sergeant of Arms for the Civitan Club.  But her heart was primarily focused on helping family, friends, and those in need.  Georgia fervently believed in giving back, encouraging others, and lending a helping hand wherever needed. Thus, modeling this attitude for her children and for all those around her.

Georgia loved life!  She spent much of her time singing and telling stories to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren keeping their family history alive. As an avid reader, books were readily available in her home. She loved traveling with her family and supporting them in their activities.  Watching the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics was a favorite pastime as well as fishing and dancing.

On April 26, 2024, Georgia entered into her eternal rest.

She leaves to cherish her humility, love, and beautiful memories two sons:  Glenn Everett of Itasca, Steven Thompson (Talisha) of Daingerfield; four daughters:  Marie Smith (Darrell) of Cason, Sharon Lewis (Rodney) of Mansfield, Jalayne Thompson of Arlington, and Kendra Sturn of Forney; one sister, Freddie Barrett (Ken) of Greenville; one brother, Joe Lewis of Greenville; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Georgia also has a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives who will mourn her passing. Three sisters, Mary Thrash, Bonnie Bell Mills, and Dorothy Cozine; and one brother, Eugene Baker preceded her in death.

This was only because I asked.

  10. Candle 2Georgia was an exceptional lady. I will never forget that friendly smile and gracious hospitality she extend for so many years to so many while serving at the Lone Star Steel Lakehouse. She sold more pipe than all the Sales Department ever did with that magical Jalapeño Rice dish that will never be forgotten! I never heard her sing, but if she was half as good singing as she was in the kitchen, she could have been a STAR! She will be missed by many and to the family, God Bless You! It was such a privilege to know her and work with her at Lone Star. W. Byron Dunn
