Funeral services for Glen Ray Big Hand Smith, 57, of Pittsburg, will be at 2 PM on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Daingerfield with Rev. Nakia Smith and Dr. Jessie Biles officiating. Interment will be in Shady Grove Cemetery in Cason under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. Mr. Smith will lie in state on Friday afternoon and evening, November 6th at the funeral home in Hughes Springs and the family will receive friends from 6-8 PM. Mr. Smith was born July 7, 1952 in Cason to Arthur Lee and Mable Jewell Smith and died on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at a Mt. Pleasant hospital. Mr. Smith was an active member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, a member of United Steel Workers and was employed at T&N in Lone Star. Survivors include his wife Gladys of Cason; two sons and daughters-in-law Ferdinand and Karen Smith of Cedar Hill and Rev. Nakia and Regina Smith of Tatum; Glinda and Peggy Mims of Daingerfield; his parents Arthur Lee and Mable Smith of Cason; one sister Alma and Tommy Harper of Cason; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter Renada Mims and a grandson Diondre Deshun Smith.

My husband knew "Big Hand" through the plant. He said he always stopped at the gate to say a few words and was a very likable man. We love you and miss you here at Jr. High. See you when you return.

  6. It's never easy to lose someone we love. Memories you shared will last a lifetime. Comfort from loving family and caring friends and most of all from these words in the Bible at Revelation 21:4 where God's promise is that there will be no more death and sorrow will surely help in the healing. I hereby offer my sincere condolences to your family.
