Glenda Howell Amox, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Lone Star, Texas, on Saturday, November 16, 2024. Surrounded by her loving family, Glenda’s final moments reflected a life filled with care, dedication, and an endless giving spirit.

Born on November 7, 1951, to Selma Benson Howell and Margaret May Alexander Howell, Glenda grew up with a love for life and a boundless energy that she carried with her always. She attended Windom High School and later pursued further studies in Kilgore, Texas. Glenda’s sense of duty led her to serve in the U.S. Army, where she dedicated two years before her honorable discharge.

After her military service, Glenda found her calling as a police dispatcher in Haines, Alaska, where she served the community for 20 years until her retirement in 2006. She was also an active member of the American Legion for 36 years, devoting countless hours to various community services, volunteering at schools, libraries, and other organizations. Her commitment earned her numerous awards, though her true reward was the connection she fostered with her community.

In 1984, Glenda married Clint Amox, her devoted husband, and together they raised three cherished children: Clint Holmes, Erik Holmes, and Preston Amox. Her family was her greatest joy, and she took pride in each member of her close-knit circle.

Glenda’s love for life was evident in her passions. She enjoyed hiking, bicycling, and gardening, hobbies that allowed her to connect with nature and share its beauty with others. As a master gardener, Glenda cultivated an abundant garden and found immense joy in sharing its harvest with friends and family. She was known for her vibrant personality, and those around her often marveled at her energy and enthusiasm.

Glenda leaves behind her loving husband, Clint Amox; her sons, Clinton Holmes and Preston Amox (wife Brittany Amox); her daughter-in-law, Julie Holmes; and her two beloved grandchildren, Erik Holmes Jr. and Amanda Holmes. She is also survived by her twin sister, Brenda Howell, and a large extended family, all of whom will miss her deeply.

She is preceded in death by her son, Erik Holmes, her sister, Frances Rankin, and her parents, Selma and Margaret Howell. Glenda’s spirit, kindness, and dedication to her family and community will remain an inspiration to all who knew her. Glenda will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered, her legacy cherished by her family and the countless lives she touched.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

  1. Very blessed to have Glenda as a friend in Haines, she could be the light in a window, with her positive attitude and smile. We all remember her here in Haines, and Clint, as our favorite guy, at Food Center. Bless you each, May Glenda’s spirit be at peace, she was a great example of friend for many.

  2. Candle 8To Glenda’s Family it saddens me to hear about your loss. I may have met Glenda once or twice at Fran’s home and I remember her to be such a caring and wonderful person. My heart goes out Fran to have to have gone through so much herself and now the loss of her best friend/sister, You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
