H. T. "Cotton" Vaughan
September 19, 1931 ~ February 6, 2018
H.T. “Cotton Vaughan was born September 19, 1931 in Cass County, Texas to Ennis and Cinda Vaughan. He attended school in Cornett. He was married to LaVern Hampton on June 3, 1950. They moved to Dallas where he worked for Simmons Mattress Company before being drafted to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his service to our country, he returned to work and retired from Simmons Mattress Company after 36 years. He was saved in 1955 and he and his family always attended Southern Baptist Churches. Since moving back to the Hughes Springs area, he has been a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church. Cotton never met a stranger and talked to everybody he met. He loved to hunt, fish, and garden, especially growing his watermelons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, W.E. “Sam” Vaughan, Marshall “Woot” Vaughan, Billy M. Vaughan, and Bobby J. Vaughan; and sister, Christine Scullion.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, LaVern Vaughan; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Jackie Vaughan, David Vaughan, Roger and Julia Vaughan; 5 grandchildren, Zachery Vaughan, Kimberly Shaddix and husband, Toby, Daniel Vaughan and wife, Lauren, LaCee Holly and husband, Dylan, Katie Savage and husband, Jeff; 14 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Kara, JayCee, Elaynah, Alianna, Julia, Jaqueline, Kadi, Waylon, Kailyn, Landry, Quiennly, Jansen, and Asher; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services for Mr. Vaughan will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Hughes Springs. Burial will follow at Cornett Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 Thursday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Crossroad Quilt Club.
There are no words that can ease a loss of a husband and dad ,You know where he has gone but you also know where he is not , Just know you are being prayed for and that the peace of God will be on the family in the coming days .
